I have a rule that moves all word windows to the right-hand monitor when open. This is working great, until I manually (click the 'move window to next monitor' button) move a word document to the left-hand monitor and leave it maximised. When I then open another word document, it stays on the left-hand monitor and the rule is ignored. As soon as I force the window back to the right-hand monitor using the button, the rule continues to work, even if i force another document to the left-hand monitor after this! It seems to be a small blip where DF needs to be reminded how the behaviour of word documents should work?

Word tends to re-use some window handles, which messes up the Window Location feature a bit. I'll definitely test this out here though to see what I can do. Which version of Word are you running?

I can't seem to reproduce this issue here. Could you send over a debug log? Here are the steps:
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "Logging: Important Only"
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

Since upgrading to the latest version of DF, this issue hasn't occurred again - I will keep an eye on it and let you know

OK I've now upgraded to the latest Beta version of DF, and this behaviour has started up again :(

Could you update to 6.0.1 Beta 4, and send over a new debug log?

Thanks!

It was all looking so promising - all windows were moving to the right, even if i forced one to the left monitor, the next one would still move to the right screen.
Then I closed a couple of documents down, and the next one I opened, stayed on the left screen in a small window. I forced that one to the right and maximised, then the next one opened and moved to the right as normal. I then closed another document down and again as soon as I opened another word document, it stuck to the left monitor and as a small window

Bummer! Sorry for the delayed response on this. I'll do some testing with it again to see what we can do :)

I don't know if you want me to start a new discussion or pin this onto the bottom of this issue, but I have since also noticed the following issue.
If a word document is minimised on the left monitor, and I use the option right-click and close, the box that prompts to save the document moves itself to the right-monitor

On the Settings > Window Management tab, do you have the "Centre child windows over the parent window" option enabled?

Yes, but if I turn that off, it then causes another issue of prompt windows maximizing on the right-hand monitor!

Yeah, that's unfortunately because those dialogs are detected as part of the Word process. In the future we'll hopefully add a way to do Window Location by Title or Class, which should help in that case.

The Window Location issue, where the Word document ignores the rule, seems to happen after I've moved a Word doc to the other monitor, then closed it. The next one I open is ignored by Window Location in DF because Word re-uses the same Window Handle as the one that was previously closed. I'm not sure what we can do to fix this, but I've added it to our list and we'll see what we can do :)

Thanks!

Hi

I've noticed a number of BETA releases lately, but we are still having this issue occur - have you found any fix for this at all?

Thanks!

Not yet, but we're hoping to have a solution for 7.2. Rest assured that I will post an update if/when we're able to get it fixed up :)
