Hi,

I have just installed DisplayFusion Pro 4.1.0, and everything is working great....except the screen saver. It is only displaying on one monitor.

I have:

- Selected Span Screen Saver
- Tried Preview Mdoe on and off
- Allowed DF to managed the screen saver
- Set the second screen to 'None' before spanning
- Upgraded to Beta 3 to see if anything changed
- Upgraded to Beta 4
- Tried various Windows screensavers
- Tried the DF photo screen saver
- I don't have any third party SS installed

Nothing made a difference.

When I went into Windows 7 to try turning off that screen saver, I can't. Even though it lets me select another screen saver (or none), when I click OK, it just reverts back to 'Photos' which is what it was on before I installed DF.

Troubleshooting attached.

Any thoughts?

Apart from this, it's a great product. Thanks!

From the troubleshooting info, it looks like DisplayFusion is only detecting one monitor in the screen saver settings, even though the other features seem to be showing both monitors. Could you post a screenshot of the DisplayFusion Screen Saver settings?

Thanks!

Hi Keith,

Image attached.

Now, another thing I noticed yesterday - after trying to play some more with the Windows 7 SS settings (no change), DP stopped advancing to the next wallpaper automatically, and my hot key for next also didn't work. However, if I went into the wallpaper settings, when I exited, the wallpaper did still advance. It's back to normal today, but thought I woudl mention it in case it was related.

Also attached is an image with a standard Win 7 SS, showing it spanning across both monitors. However, it doesn't - it just keeps showing the W7 photos SS that is set in 'Appearance' of Win 7, totally ignoring the DP settings.

Ok, that's strange! Even after you apply the screen saver settings in DisplayFusion, the Windows Screen Saver settings still shows the Photos screen saver, correct? Are you able to manually change the Screen Saver using the Windows settings to the DisplayFusion Screen Saver and apply that?

It sounds like maybe some other program or administrative tool could be locking the screen saver to the Photos one. Is your computer on a corporate network, or is it just a personal computer at home?

Thanks for the quick response!

Yep, Windows keeps showing Photos no matter whether I change it in DP, or try and select a different W7 saver. It seems to take the change, but when I click OK, the Personalization screen keeps showing Photos. I'm fairly certain I could change the screen saver before I installed DP, but having said that, I can't actually remember when I last did....

It is a corporate computer, but there are no policies affecting the screen savers - I'm the CIO, so if there was, I would change it! :)

Forgot to say - haven't tried using Windows to select DF Screen Saver - how would I do that?

And sorry, Just realised I kept saying DP instead of DF! Must need coffee....

No worries! To change it using the Windows settings, do the following:
  • Right-click the Desktop and choose Personalization
  • Click the Screen Saver option on the bottom right of the Personalization window
  • Try changing the screen saver in the drop-down list to the DisplayFusion Screen Saver
See the attached screenshot for what it should look like when the DisplayFusion Screen Saver is set correctly.

Thanks!

Display Fusion doesn't appear in that list - only standard W7 ones.

I had already looked tehre, but I thought there must be some 'special' way to select it, and I was just a bit thick!

Interesting! It will only show up in that list after the DisplayFusion Screen Saver settings have been successfully applied. If you click the Preview button in the DisplayFusion Screen Saver settings, it should prompt you to save the settings and then show the spanned Ribbons screen saver. Does that work at all?

If it does, can you check the screen saver list in the Windows settings again to see if the DisplayFusion one shows up?

If it doesn't, could you do the following?
  • Enable debug logging on the Troubleshooting tab (set it to Logging: Detailed) and click Apply
  • Try to apply the DisplayFusion Screen Saver settings(please note the time so I'll know where to look in the log file)
  • Send me the %appdata%\DisplayFusion\DisplayFusion.log file (can be found by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Troubleshooting tab)
Thanks!

I click the Preview, it asks me to save, I say yes, but it then shows the W7 Photros SS on a single monitor. :(

Log attached, I clicked apply at 08:52:30.

Strange! Could you backup your DisplayFusion Settings (Options tab), and attach the file here? I'll load them onto a test machine to see if I can get the same issue to happen here.

Thanks!

Thanks Ashley! When you sent this backup, what screen saver were you trying to configure in the DisplayFusion settings? The backup shows that it's configured to span the DisplayFusion Photos screen saver, is that correct?

Hi Keith, yes that is correct. I have also tried other Windows screen savers.

Ok, I know the DisplayFusion Screen Saver isn't showing up in the Windows Screen Saver settings (in Personalization), but could you try configuring one of the other screen savers there, instead of in DisplayFusion and see if you're able to apply the settings?

Thanks!

I can select one, and click apply, but when I click ok to return to Personalisation, it still just shows Windows 'Photos'.

I could select others before I installed DF.

DisplayFusion doesn't really do anything that would prevent the screen saver from being changed using the Windows settings, but maybe try uninstalling DisplayFusion (choose No when prompted for a complete uninstall so that your settings stay intact).

If it still doesn't work after uninstalling DisplayFusion, perhaps there's another program on your system that's trying to keep the screen saver set to the Windows Photo one?

Thansk Keith. Already tried that, but no good. I don't have any other programs on the PC that would touch the screen saver (it's a pretty new, relatively clean machine).

Oh well, guess I will just put it down to a Windows bug! Thanks for your help.

It's a strange one indeed! Sorry I couldn't be of more help. If I come across any other ideas that might be helpful, I'll be sure to let you know.

Thanks!
