After an update for Start11, DF started acting weird on my next boot-up. My main taskbar is loading weirdly and flickering. My PC starts lagging and every time I click on the desktop, it's like DF crashes and reloads. This lasts for a bit of time before it seems like DF finds some sort of harmony with Start11. Just trying to figure out what I can do to fix this problem. I have video of the phenomonon but it's 111 MB if anyone needs to see it.

Had another customer report something similar, also running Start11. We're doing some testing here to try and reproduce this issue to see what's up.

Great, it's become seriously annoying and I have no idea what the issue is.

I'm having the exact same issue

Edit: I downgraded to a version of Start11 from February (I still had the .exe installer from then) and now I'm not having the issue.

Could you guys backup your Start11 settings and reply with them attached? I still can't reproduce this here but hoping I'll be able to with your settings.

I feel like I had a similar problem with Start11v2 after a certain point a few months ago... but it only really came up when waking my system from being locked with the screens off.

I ended up fixing it by writing a trigger to "Toggle Multi-Monitor Taskbar" when locking/unlocking the desktop. I completely forgot about the issue until now.

I'm having the same problem and it's driving me nuts. Unfortunately I did not save the old version of Start11. ???

-edit-
Found the version from May 2025, installed it over the current new version and the problem is gone.

I think I've finally been able to reproduce this issue here. It seems to only occur if the primary monitor has a different scaling level from the second monitor, and only after sleeping and resuming the machine. Thanks for your help tracking this down, we've put it on our list to fix up.

Thanks!

That's odd—while I didn't send you my Start11 settings, I don't believe that my two monitors are set to different scaling levels. I say that because my primary monitor runs
2560x1440 @ 165Hz
and my secondary monitor runs
2560x1440 @ 75Hz
. Not only that, but I NEVER sleep/resume my machine—I only ever reboot it—and even then, I only do that like once every few days at most. At all other times, the most I do is lock the machine and turn off the monitors.

Screen lock/monitor power off might be enough to trigger it as well. Sleep/resume was the easiest way for me to reproduce it, and it's definitely possibly the scaling level was a red herring.

I'm able to get my taskbar to stablize by clicking on the screen repeatedly, which causes the main taskbar to reset, and opening programs at the same time. This seems to force everything coexist until the next time I restart.

We've added more logging in 11.2 Beta 4. After updating, could you reproduce the issue again and reply with a new debug log attached?

Thanks!

Hello,

We took a look into this, unfortunately it's not something we can fix from our end. We contacted the developers at Start11 and they said they're working on a beta to fix this up.

Thanks!

This is a vague answer, but I somehow overcame my Start11 taskbar flashing issue. In the Start11 Configuration > Taskbar settings, I turned off the Let Start11 enhance the taskbar option. Later, I turned that setting back on. I haven't had the flashing issue since then, even when reconfiguring Start11, DF's, or Windows taskbar. Hopefully someone can replicate the situation, if only to alleviate the flashing and be able to work normally until we find a fix.

You're better off going to Stardock's forums and asking.
