The size of the start icon is lot bigger in the newest beta if using a custom start icon. It was working fine in version 10. Basically, start icon is broken in many different ways. I even reset it to be not custom, but it is black and smaller than my other monitor.

I can confirm this behavior. I just installed v5.1.0 beta 11 and my Classic Shell icon on the DisplayFusion taskbar is smaller and the background is an opaque black square instead of transparent. This issue did not exist in beta 10. The version of Classic Shell I am using is v3.6.8

Keith: I also use a custom button in my Classic Shell Classic Start /Menu on Windows 8. Perhaps that was involved in the failure to display in Beta 11 I reported earlier …

The issue is resolved it appears. I just upgraded to latest beta version after hitting ignore to the last one.
DisplayFusion 5.1 Beta 12 is now available. Please let me know if you guys still run into trouble.
@Seth: If your Start button size is still too big, could you tell me what the Start Button Size is set to in the Classic Shell settings?
