Have a new SUW monitor. I've tried regular, and monitor splits etc. Tried span, diff image, and same image but whenever I go to change the wallpaper source DP just freezes for a second then closes the configuration window. So I am just stuck with a black background now.

That's really strange! Could you send us a debug log for this issue?

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Sure thing. That's for the reply.

Check around 5:09. It's pretty quick and easy to reproduce on my end.

Sorry. Maybe should have quoted you to get notice. Or you are just super busy.

Seems it wont run on startup either. I can run it normal. Even using monitor splitting works. Just now startup doesn't happen and the crash I mentioned when trying to change image source.

For the startup issue, is the "Start with Windows" option enabled on the Settings > Options tab? If so, does DisplayFusion show up in the Windows Task Manager > Startup list and is it set to Enabled?

For the crash, you're clicking the "Change" button to change the wallpaper source and then it crashes before the source selector window opens? Does it throw any errors at all?

For startup: Yes to both. Also noticed with another app I use to check out this stuff its set to a delayed start.

For the crash: No. It actually opens the source selection (imgur, videos, all those places) but never lets me click on anything. It just gets there, hangs, and then closes it out. Displayfusion continues to run but the whole config menu for setting up the wallpapers closes out.

Ok. I think I have fixed it. Using event viewer I found that some codecs for FFDShow seemed to be causing it.

ff_acm.acm & lameACM.acm

In windows/system32 I renamed these to .bak for safety. Now I can actually select things with out a crash. These are probably from some old codec pack I installed as they were created and last modified back in 2011. Probably safe having renamed them.

The errors from Event Viewer

Startup is still not working though. But changing sources / images is fine now for sure.

Glad to hear the wallpaper source selection is working now!

For the startup issue, could you do the following?

  • Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\DisplayFusion.
  • Right-click DisplayFusion.exe and click Properties.
  • On the Compatibility tab, is anything enabled there? (please send me a screenshot of it if possible)

Thanks!

Yeah. Run as admin was checked. Which was part of me trying to troubleshoot the wallpaper issue. And I remembered when searching for the startup problem during some downtime at work you mentioned that to another user. Disabled it. Working now. :D

Yay, all normal now. Thanks for the quick responses.
