I'm trying to figure this out but so far I'm not getting it right. Before buying DisplayFusion I inquired as to whether this was possible and was pointed to Triggers. Hoping someone who is experienced with that DF feature can help, please.

Sometimes I open a PDF from within Acrobat (Ctrl+O) and sometimes I double-click a PDF in its location. The first PDF I open launches Acrobat if its not already running, and that occurs on my far left monitor where I want it. I think that is a remembered position (OS or Acrobat, I'm not sure). However, when I open subsequent PDFs (Ctrl-O or double-click) they open on my middle monitor and then I have to drag them off to the left. I'm tired of doing this. I need PDFs to always open on the same monitor (my far left monitor). This worked on my Windows 7 machine (not sure if the OS handled it, or it was DF or Ultramon at that time).

I don't really understand DF Triggers so this might be easier than I feel like it is when I try it. I humbly ask for some help from the community. Thanks!

Could you attach a screenshot of the Trigger rule you've got currently setup? I'll have a look at it and see if I can spot any issues :)

Thanks!

Sorry Keith, just saw your reply now. I deleted the two things I had tried and now I don't remember how I set them up to reproduce for you. Honestly, I'm overwhelmed with all of the potential functionality of triggers and just am not sure where to start. I will try again now and see if I can produce something to show you (or better yet, get it to work). The bottom line is that I just want PDFs to always open on a specific monitor. I'll reply again in a bit. Thank you for your response.

OK, here is what I think I did before and as I was trying now it was still what I would come up with. I've probably over-simplified it. I have read some of the documentation that describes the various Trigger fields/options but it's a lot of info and I don't really know what I'm looking for (what is applicable to my needs) so I get lost. Maybe you can point me in the right direction. Thanks for any advice.

Thanks! That looks exactly how I would set it up as well. Adobe Reader has a sandbox mode that may be preventing DisplayFusion from managing it. If you go to Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced), is the "Run in AppContainer" option enabled?

If so, try disabling that and restarting Adobe Reader. Note that disabling that option will reduce the security of Adobe Reader somewhat, so I'll leave it up to you to decide if you want to leave it disabled after testing :)

I actually use Adobe Acrobat, not Reader. But I think I've gotten it to work. I tried it a few times double-clicking PDFs in various locations and using Ctrl-O in the Acrobat application window and so far, the PDFs open on the middle/main monitor but instantly are moved to the far left monitor. It's a bit visually funky but it's certainly a huge step up from the way it was behaving.

I attached a screen shot of my working Trigger. I appreciate the help. I actually found an old thread that you posted suggestions on and that led me to add the asterisk (*) to my .exe file in the Trigger and that seemed to be the key. Thanks!
