I keep getting an error message when I try to change monitor profiles. I have also tried to delete my monitor profiles and then recreate them, as well as opening DisplayFusion in admin mode, but nothing has worked yet. Here is the error message;
An error has occurred while applying your new Monitor configuration.
Please check your settings and try again.
Error: Failed to call SetDisplayConfig. [HR: 87]
[System.Exception]

I am still on windows 10, and have gone as far as to uninstall DisplayFusion and reinstall, yet to no avail.

Can you update to our latest beta and let me know if the issue persists? We've re-worked our monitor configuration code, so you'll need to delete and recreate any monitor profiles after updating. Here's the link to download the beta: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/

For more details on the changes to the monitor configuration code, please see this post: https://www.displayfusion.com/Discussions/View/monitor-configuration-backend-completely-revamped-in-displayfusion-100-b18/?ID=b17dacd1-0611-48c1-a29c-3a3e5046812a

I downloaded the beta, deleted the profiles, but I am not able to change any monitor configurations through displayfusion- and when I change them through windows setting and then save them in DisplayFusion, I am unable to load the monitor configuration and apply it. I get the following message, hit apply, and then the program freezes for about a minute and then unfreezes without having applied any changes to the monitor configuration.

"To disable this monitor DisplayFusion needs to apply your monitor configuration settings.
Would you like to continue?"

Could you send me over a debug log? Here are the steps:

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks for sending that over. Do you get this error when manually chaning settings through the DisplayFusion Monitor Configuration window, or just when trying to apply a monitor profile?

Either one, Im not able to make any kind of changes to my monitor seteup in any way through displayfusion anymore. I have both tried to reinstall and to launch with admin, but nothing works.

We have a potential fix for this coming in the next beta. We'll let you know as soon as it's available to try out.

Been having this issue for months now. Do you offer refunds if we can't make the software work?

We can definitely do that if the next beta doesn't work out. It should be ready to try early next week so I'll let you know when it's available and we'll go from there.

It has been released, sorry for the delay in following up, we've been short-staffed for the last week. In the latest beta, there's a new drop-down in the Monitor Config window. It says "No target scaling" by default. Could you try each value in that list (click apply after trying each one). One of them should work, and then you'll want to re-save any profiles you have with that value selected.

Unfortunately there isn't a way for us to auto-detect the correct one so it's a bit of trial and error :(

Please let me know how it works out.

Thanks!

Still no luck... Not sure what changed, but the software hasn't been working for months now, even though I have been on the same PC and have had it work before.

Does it still throw this error when you try to apply the monitor config?
Error: Failed to call SetDisplayConfig. [HR: 87]

And does it throw that error for every value you try in the target scaling drop-down?

I do not get any kind of error message. It is almost as if my television doesnt react to the input- but only when I enable the screen through DisplayFusion. If I go into Nvidia Setting or windows settings and enable my third display, the screen works perfectly. I then go into displayfusion and save the profile. Later when I try to switch to this profile with DisplayFusion, the third monitor is not actually enable. It seems like windows thinks that the 3rd monitor is enabled (I am able to drag the mouse offscreen, and the third monitor appears in other areas) but the third monitor itself does not display any image.

I think the problem lies in that DisplayFusion picks the wrong type of resolution. Within Nvidia Control Setting, there are two ways to select 1920 x 1080.
The one highlighted in the picture that starts with 4k is the one DisplayFusion works, however the one below that (that is still 1920 x 1080) is the one that makes my third monitor/tv actually work when I manually enable it in my settings.

Both of these screenshots show the 4k entry, could you try re-sending the other one?

Thanks!

I think I would actually like to go ahead with a refund. I appreciate the effort in helping me troubleshoot, but I feel that spending this much time on troubleshooting is taking up more of my productivity... Sorry for the troubles and best of luck with everything!

No problem at all, I will check whether we can refund it directly. If it's too old to refund directly, we'll email you to work out another way to send you the refund.

Thanks!
