I just recently started using the DF taskbar on my system and noticed that on my non-primary monitor that explorer and application icons on the taskbar randomly change position. I always have multiple instances of explorer running and have them arranged in quadrants. I then know that I can click on specific icons to access certain explorer instances. However, I've noticed that for some reason the icons are spontaneously reordering themselves. I'm able to drag them back to where I want them, but this is a chronic thing that I noticed almost as soon as I started using the taskbar. Is there any way to prevent the icons from randomly reordering their position on the taskbar?

Are these pinned icons or running icons?

Hi Owen, these are apps that are actively running and not pinned. They just seem to randomly move. I'll be working on something on one monitor and look over to my other monitor and explorer windows will be reordered and the icon for Outlook or other apps will be shifted. I haven't actually seen it happen yet, so I'm assuming it must be a pretty quick process. There will be times that nothing will move for maybe an hour or more and then suddenly the app icons have moved. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Interesting, could you send me a debug log? Here are the steps:

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and then click "Clear Log"
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

It didn't take long for this to happen again. I started logging at 11:00 EST and noticed the icon swaps on two of my monitors at 11:53. It could have happened a little before that as I was editing something for probaby 10 minutes.

Nothing seems to stand out in that log. Could you update to our latest beta and let me know if the issue persists? Here's the link: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/

I can't really do this. It's on a work machine and as I work for an MSP their policy on installing beta software is crazy strict. I was lucky to get DisplayFusion approved as a general proposition. I can't imagine I'm the only one experiencing this issue, but in any case it's crazy how often it happens. Honestly, the only reason I haven't stopped using it is because, while the icons having apparent self-determination concerning where they live on the taskbar is somewhat annoying, Windows 11's native taskbars unstoppable thumbnail previews drive me to the edge of sanity. Icons I have to reposition occasionally is a nuisance, pop-up windows that constantly obscure where I'm typing while messaging or distracting me non-stop actually makes me angry, so I'll deal with it for now I guess. Thanks for your time and input.
