Hi! Long time user (10-ish years?), first time caller.

On my new box using Win 11 22H2 (build 22621.1702) I am experiencing unexpected behaviors with my Window Position Profiles.

In the past, I was able to do a wildcard * in the name field for a window type like an Opera/Chrome/IE/Teams type window where the name would change freqeuntly depending on the website or area of a program you were in.

In my current experience, windows will not move if given a *, or null set, or even removing the field entirely.

I can get Outlook, both Mail and Calendar to act appropriately. However, programs like Opera, Notion, and Teams just sit there if I take out the name operator in any of those 3 methods. If I leave them in, they will move. Once I move to a different tab (any browser) or section of the program (Teams/Notion/Discord) those windows will not be moved by DisplayFusion at all.

If you could point to what I am doing dumbly, I would appreciate it.

Could you send me over a screenshot of the Edit window on your profile?

Thanks for sending that over. Those fields don't support wildcards, they use Text Queries (guide on that here: https://www.displayfusion.com/FAQ/#TextQueries) so it's already a "Contains" match without using an asterisks.

Hope that helps!

That is a useful link. In the interests of trying to save you guys time, I read that before posting here to begin with.

You'll notice in that image, that one entry has a wildcard (*) attempt while two have nothing entered. I have also tried it a third way by deselecting the field altogether as an operator and none of those seem to be working. I've used this setup to move browser windows around in the past, but none of those three options seem to be able to relocate a window where my window text is unpredictable.

I'm open to suggestions.

Yeah you'll need to enter something in that field if you have it enabled, leaving it empty won't match to a window.

Some apps use a constant name in their Window Text field. For example, the chat tab in Teams uses "Chat | Microsoft Teams", the Teams tab uses "Microsoft Teams", the calendar tab uses "Calendar | Microsoft Teams", so setting the Window Text in your profile to "Teams" would match all three.

Well that's disappointing. I have used this for YEARS in this manner. I don't know why it's suddenly exhibiting a different behaviour on my new Windows 11 box.

Thanks for the clarification and your time. I'll see if I can't find a way to get a constant window text for my browsers.
