I have 4 monitors, and thought this issue was due to an underpowered AMD graphics card, so I upgraded to a Quadro K620, and still having the same problem.
I just had an issue where I was dragging a window around and it was not dragging on top of other windows - really really weird.
So I shut off DisplayFusion, and the problem went away.
I can't see this being an issue due to any other software on my system.
Are there any other reports of this kind of problem?
I often have issues where clicking on a taskbar icon doesn't bring a window to front, and sometimes it works if I double click. Other times, if I click an icon, it doesn't come to front, but I use a keyboard shortcut to move the current window to another monitor, and it then pops to the other monitor - meaning it obviously has to have focus, but it's being hidden behind other windows.
This has been going on for months, and now that I've narrowed it down to, what I'm pretty sure is DF, I'd like it fixed please! I don't have much hair left.
Cheers,
David

Found it!
Yes, I've used taskbars on the sides of my monitors for many years - awesome way to go.
Not sure if disallowing 'topmost' calls will cause issues with other stuff, but I'll be happy if I never see that issue again!
Thanks Keith.

Upgraded to 9.0b4 and turned off the advanced setting.
So far so good, but it's only been an hour or so. I'll post back here if I see any issues in the next few days.
Thanks Keith.

Hi Keith - I don't think this has fixed it. Had some of the usual weirdness over the weekend, and had to shut down DF to get things working again.

Ok, could you try another thing for me? On the Settings > Taskbars tab, if you change the Window Preview Style to "Windows Vista," then restart DisplayFusion, do you still run into these issues?

Ok, have reset topmost to default and Windows Vista style. Will let you know when/if I get more weirdness.

Reenabled the disallow Topmost. Not as bad as before, but still some odd behaviour where I have to click more than once to get a window to come to the top.

Ok, thanks for the update!

Running Windows 10 Pro Version 1709 OS build 16299.64 and three monitors on a Dell Optiplex 3020, I started to experience windows not coming to the front on click about 2 weeks ago. I must minimize the window and reopen on the taskbar to make active.
Running:
• Name: DisplayFusion Pro 9.1
• Name Data: DisplayFusion
• Build Date: Nov 14, 2017 21:12
I have tried the workarounds that are posted in this discussion, so far nothing has worked. Are there any other suggestions?
On the Settings > Taskbar tab, could you try setting the Window Preview Style to "Previews disabled, show group list on hover" and see if that makes any difference? (this is just a test, not a permanent solution)

Unfortunately this did not work. Other suggestions?

File is attached. I really appreciate your help with

Thanks! I noticed you have the "Troubleshooting: SetWindowPos: Disallow TopMost Calls" option enabled in the Advanced Settings. Are these z-order issues still happening even with that enabled, or did you enable that after running into it as a workaround?

Enabled that after the problem started, I found this workaround in another discussion.
Ok, and you're still running into the z-order issue even with that Advanced Setting enabled?
Ok, thanks for confirming! We're going to check into a few things here. I will keep you posted when we have more news.

I would not have a problem doing that, but recently at work one of the computers that is running Windows 10 and 2 monitors is experiencing the same problem. The interesting thing is, that computer is not running DisplayFusion. It recently went through a Windows update, then the problem started. I just confirmed that my computer and the work computer have the same version of Windows 10.
Version 1709
OS Build 16299.64
Ah interesting! It could definitely be another software package causing it then. The root bug is a Windows 10 bug where applications that use topmost calls (a valid Win32 API call), can trigger this to happen. So if there's another application that's also using topmost calls, it could also be causing this to happen.

How do I determine what is using topmost calls?
There isn't really an easy way to do it, unfortunately. It would be more of a trial and error thing, of exiting different applications for a while to see if the issue stops occurring.

Just thought I would pass on an update. I found the problem on my computer, I was using an older screensaver that was the cause of the problem. Turned it off and all is great again!
Thanks for the update! What was the name of the screen saver?

I had this problem with Windows 10, taskbar on the side and version 9.5 of display fusion. I uninstalled display fusion and reinstalled it and the appears to have gone away. Fingers crossed...
Update - fail, the problem is back - 2 days later

@Daniel: Have you already tried enabling the "Disable TopMost Calls" option in the DisplayFusion Settings > Advanced Settings?
