I am trying to use DisplayFusion to manage my logon backgrounds for Windows 7. When I set an image DisplayFusion is automatically compressing the image to get the file size under 256kb. Is there anyway to stop DisplayFusion from doing this? I understand why it does it but I have customized my Windows 7 installation to allow for larger files to be used for the logon background so I would prefer if DisplayFusion stopped automatically compressing them.

Thanks.

There isn't at the moment. Could you tell me how you've tweaked Windows 7 to allow larger logon background images? Maybe we can incorporate that into DisplayFusion so that we don't have to compress the images any more :)

It involves using a hex editor to change authui.dll which is located in C:\Windows\System32

For 32-bit Windows 7 you change 3D 00 E8 03 00 73 51 to 3D 00 E8 03 00 90 90

For 64-bit Windows 7 you change E8 03 00 41 3B C1 73 3E to E8 03 00 41 3B C1 90 90

It basically just changes the instructions from telling it to check the file size to instead do nothing. Credit goes to this thread: https://opencarnage.net/index.php?/topic/4444-custom-windows-7-loginlock-background-with-256kb-limit-removal/

I also made sure under gpedit.msc that "always use custom logon background is enabled"
"1. Click Start, type gpedit.msc in the Search programs and files field, and then press ENTER.

2. In the Local Group Policy Editor, expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand System, and then click Logon.

3. Double-click Always use custom logon background.

4. Select Enable, and then click OK."

Awesome, thanks! Unfortunately we likely won't add that tweak as we don't implement features that edit system DLLs, but I have added a feature request to our list for an Advanced Setting to disable DisplayFusion's image compression on the logon background image. We'll be sure to post an update if/when we've implemented that :)

Thanks!
