Hello,

Could you send me a copy of your troubleshooting info? Here are the steps:

  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached

Could you also send me a backup of your settings? You can grab them by opening up Display Fusion Settings > Options > Export Settings, and then attach them here.

Thanks!

Attached. It's strange, I can drag other windows around the screen until i am blue in the face, but drag Edge around when DisplayFusion is running and explorer will crash after a random period of time, sometimes quickly, sometimes after a second or two. Stop DF and I can drag Edge around for ages no problem.

Hello,

We're having some trouble reproducing the issue on our end. Could you try updating to our latest beta and seeing if the issue persists? Here's the link: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/

Just an FYI, if you have some custom settings you would like to keep before updating, I would recommend getting an updated export file, the same way you did before.

Also, are you running a version of the windows insider build?

Thanks!

I too have the issue. I hadn't made the association with MS Edge before, but it has been my primary browser lately.
It seems that move Edge interaction on the second monitor is the issue.
Moving it to/from Monitor 2 seems to trigger it for me. I thought I'd seen it crash with seemingly no interaction. I am not so sure now.
I updated to the DisplayFusion Beta last week, but the problem persists.
I had not reported it because I am running the Windows 10 "Beta Channel".
I have attached logs, in case you are interested.

Yes Beta channel Insider.

As per Michael Gillen, it only happens on the second monitor (good pickup Michael!)

I was able to reproduce this here as well on one machine. We'll add it to our list to see if it's something we can fix up from our end!

I hope you figure it out. I too have this problem and it's such a bummer as I like to drag out tabs with videos from the browser to the secondary to keep them playing while doing other things. And since switching to Edge Chromium it messes with "other things"

I have this issue as well. Windows 10 20H2 (19042.546) - Release preview ring. The exact same crash when moving Microsoft Edge to second monitor. There was something in the release notes for 546 to fix a reliability issue with Edge so I was hoping that would resolve the issue but it did not. I tried completely deleting the files to reset Microsoft Edge and doing a clean install of my NVidia drivers and all the other usual things like sfc and dism etc. and nothing would fix it. Then I found this post and immediately after uninstalling DisplayFusion, the problem goes away. Hopefully this can be fixed.

Do you have an issue number or other way to track progress? This makes this product all but unusable for the way I work, which when it is a product I have paid for makes me inclined to ask for a refund if it is not going to be / can't be fixed.

Let's not forget that we are running on a version of Windows, not yet in general release.
I'm sure that they will get it fixed.
For now, I have gone back to Chrome for the items in my right monitor. I understand that may not be as easy for some, as it is for me, to swap back and forth between browsers. But, I use Firefox for some tasks too.

I've actually just updated to insider build 20226 and the issue is gone, so Microsoft has fixed it up :)

I'm running on 19042.546, Beta channel not Dev channel. Still does it.

Keep in mind that 20226 is a developer build for a new update out several months from now. 19042 is currently intended to be the final release of 20H2 and is expected to be released to the public this month so there's a good possibility the issue with DisplayFusion could continue to exist for awhile.
While I also use multiple browsers, Edge is important enough for various reasons that I'm having to give up DisplayFusion for now. I purchased a single license for DisplayFusion 9 years ago so I'm sure I already got my money's worth, but nevertheless, I'm still disappointed having to potentially give up the software until the next major Windows update comes out maybe 6-7 months from now.

@Maaz: For sure. I'm hopeful that they'll roll whatever that fix is into a patch for the stable release of 20H2.

Ever since Windows 20H2 I'm having similar problems. Explorer.exe crashes non stop, DisplayFusion is not usable because of this. I've reinstalled DF while using a clean config, but the issue still happens.

Same for me, 20H2 (Enterprise, 19042.572)... Edge 86.0.622.58 constantly making explorer.exe crash. Quit DisplayFusion and all is well... Seeing no updates to DisplayFustion and not much engagement on this thread is making me wonder if it's time to ditch DisplayFustion and just go with what Windows 10 has built in these days... :-/

We do have a temporary fix coming for this in the next beta. For whatever reason, when Edge is removed from the Windows taskbar in 20H2, it causes explorer.exe to crash.

In 9.7.1 Beta 5, DisplayFusion won't remove Edge from the Windows taskbar when it's moved to another monitor, and once the fix from Windows Insider build 20226 has made it into a non-beta Windows update, we'll allow it to be removed again.

Thank you. We look forward to trying the beta when it's ready.

Hello,

This issue should be fixed up in the latest beta, available here: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta. Please let me know if you still run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

Can confirm this works for me. Good to have a workaround until MS gets around to fixing this :D
Thanks!

Just want to confirm this, as s temporary work around Edge shows on both main taskbar and DF now? (I'm still on 2004 version, which was not affected by that bug and this is the behavior I see with DF 9.7.1 beta 5) Would it be possible have this work around applied only to the systems that were affected by that bug?

Great, thanks for releasing a beta for this guys, it's been a pain. I'm trying to download now, but the link takes me to a 404 page?

@V@no: Sorry about that, we should limit it to only 20H2. We'll have that fixed for Beta 6.

@Stephen: Could you give it a try again? We've cleared the cache at our CDN so it should work now.

Even though it's not stated in the changes log, v2004 no longer shows Edge on system taskbar. Thanks.
