Hello,
I am a recent (happy) user of DisplayFusion. I have an issue with Outlook that started appearing after enabling DF.
Quite often, when composing a new email il Outlook, an empty, non-usable Word window pops up and can be quite annoying.
I am attaching a screenshot showing this issue.
My configurations is 3 FullHD monitors inline, with nVidia Surround active (5760x1080) on a GTX980, Windows 10 64bit.

I did search in the forum but couldn't find anything like this listed.

Thanks

Marios

This should be all fixed up in the latest beta, available here: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta

Please let me know if you still run into any trouble after updating :)

Thanks!

Hoping this fixes it. I've been having this problem for a long time with earlier versions of Outlook too.

I can confirm that this fix my issue as well, it took me a few weeks to realize display fusion was the issue found out the new beta fixes it. :) Thanks

You might want to think about pushing out an update for just this fix rather than waiting until its out of beta. I am sure there are others with the same issue and not aware that display fusion is the issue and there is a beta to fix it.

Thanks again!

I have the same issue with Outlook 2013 spawning ghost like blank word windows when forwarding or replying to outlook emails. If I closed those blank word windows, in a few minutes of continued outlook use, outlook would crash & reload.

DisplayFusion 7 on Windows 7 Enterprise

Running the v8 beta now & it seems to have resolved the issue.I'm glad I found this info.

Hi,

I'm reopening this fairly old thread as I'm having the same issue with a multi-monitor setup under Win10 Enterprise (10.0.16299 Build 16299) and DisplayFusion 9.1 from November 15, 2017. The beta fix from earlier would assumingly be rolled up into this version, yet Outlook (part of MS Office 365 ProPlus, v1722) also opens fullscreen blank Microsoft Word windows that can't be closed without crashing. Thanks.

@teedeepee: Could you send over a debug log? Here are the steps:

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Hi Keith, thank you for your reply. Please find the logs attached. The events (two "ghost windows" appearing, one as I opened Outlook, and the other as I navigated to a mailbox within Outlook) span across 08:49 and 08:50am.

Thanks! I'm not seeing the winword.exe process showing up in the log at all, and no entries indicating that DisplayFusion tried to move or resize any outlook.exe windows either. To double-check, if you exit DisplayFusion, does this issue still occur?

Hi Keith,

Thank you. I exited both DisplayFusion and Outlook, reopened Outlook, and sure enough the problem is still there. So it's not caused by DisplayFusion (I use a hardware Matrox DualHead2Go to display my laptop on two monitors), and using DisplayFusion doesn't change the outcome one way or another.

Ah ok, phew! It could be the Matrox software doing it, because it doesn't some similar stuff to DisplayFusion in order to split the monitors.

Hi Keith, I was able to confirm that the Matrox PowerDesk software is indeed the culprit, not DisplayFusion. User Ian_L_052 posted the solution in this thread: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_outlook-mso_win10-mso_2016/disable-blank-word-pane-when-opening-a-message-in/9217bab1-1ff6-48e8-8a9b-e6ed54abf038. Thank you.
