Hello,

Ever since last update, DF just closes silently in the background with no error message or warning. I'm having to manually open DF everyday when it closes. Please advise as this has turned an awesome product into a complete annoyance.

Regards,
John

Would you be able to send over a debug log to help troubleshoot this further? Here are the steps:
  • Update to the latest Beta: http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal"
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

@Henrik: This log doesn't show anything weird happening. Did you enable logging before or after it crashed?

Here is my log after a crash. I rebooted my PC at 2015/01/18 20:10:37 at which time DF ran at startup normally. At 2015/01/18 23:21:30 so I noticed DF had closed itself with no error I restarted it. Log attached.

Could you give this build a try and let me know how it works out? No logs needed, just let me know if it hangs/crashes or not.

Thanks!

Ok, bummer. Could you send over some more detailed logs? Here are the steps:
  • On the Settings > Troubleshooting tab, set the logging to "L1: Logging Minimal"
  • In the Settings > Advanced Settings, enable the 3 logging options in the Troubleshooting section (see the attached screenshot)
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • When it crashes again, send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files found in %%localappdata%%\DisplayFusion

Ok! We've got a new build for you to try out :)

I don't need debug logs, just let me know if it hangs/crashes or not. Here's the link: http://www.binaryfortress.com/Files/DisplayFusion/DisplayFusionSetup-7.2.0-Beta2.exe

Thanks!

Ok, when it crashes, are there any errors in the Application event logs? Here are the steps to check:
  • Start > Run > eventvwr.msc
  • In the left pane, expand Windows Logs and click Application
  • In the right pane, look for error entries around the time of the crash, and see if any of them have a source of "Application Error"
  • Right-click them and choose "Save selected events"
  • Attach the saved file here

Thanks!

The last log entry before DF crashed was at 11:59:03 and at that time there are a lot of errors in the Windows Event Viewer. I've saved and attached the errors that took place at 11:59am.

Thanks! Those events look like they're for a different app: "C:\Program Files\KMSpico\AutoPico.exe"

I wonder if there's some sort of conflict between DisplayFusion and that app. Could you try updating to the just-release DisplayFusion 7.2 Beta 3, and if you still run into this issue, try disabling that AutoPico app temporarily to see if that makes any difference?

Thanks!

7.2 Beta 3 crashes more than previous version. Multiple times a day.

Were you able to disable that app I mentioned in my previous post, to see if that might be causing a conflict?

Disabling the app has not solved the issue. DisplayFusion still crashing several times a day.

Anything else that can be done here?

Your original post mentioned that it started after updating to the latest (7.1?), would you be able to try rolling back to 7.0? Here's the link to download that version: http://www.binaryfortress.com/Files/DisplayFusion/DisplayFusionSetup-7.0c.exe
