I have put together a new beta release. This one adds a couple new configuration options. And, the biggest change of all, it has the first DWM integration. It ties into DWM in Vista and Windows 7 to provide taskbar previews for minimized windows. Something Windows XP can't do. Integrating these DWM functions is the first step towards a fully native looking taskbar... but one step and a time. :)

Just to confirm, it doesn't look like it crashes when resizing the taskbar now.

Just downloaded - will be upgrading to the Windows 7 RC build 7100 in a few, so I'll test on both 7077 and the RC and report back.

Wow! Just...Wow!

Jon, see the attached pic below - this is *awesome*.

May I post the same pic over at Windows 7 forums, or would you like for me to wait until this build is public?

Also, can I assume that since you've started getting DWM integration working like this that soon the rest of the feature set of DF will (hopefully) be available to Win7, or is it too early for me to start celebrating?
I am I.

Hi Jon,

I've been running this build and it seems to have fixed the task bar corruption problem :-D

Ill leave it another couple of days, but so far so good!

@John: I'm glad to hear you like it. :) It's still a bit early to get excited about a native looking Windows 7 taskbar, but the foundation for it is built now. I'll probably work towards that for version 3.1 or 3.2.

@beakersoft: That's excellent - please let me know if the corruption (or anything else) happens again.

Installing Windows 7 RC over the beta today. Looks very promising.

@John: Sorry, I forgot to mention that I have no issue with you posting that screenshot publicly. :)

@benway: That's good to hear! I'm still running build 7000, but I think MSDN subscribers get access to build 7100 on the 30th (tomorrow). It looks like I'll be spending my Saturday reinstalling my virtual machines. :)

Unfortunately, I am finishing up semester end projects, and finals are next week - I may install the RC here in a couple of days, but more likely I'll wait until afterfinals (and when the RC is officially out)...

It's unusual in that I have been off the official beta since about 20 days after it came out :P

Thanks for the chance to post the screen shot. While I realize it is *early* your competitors that have been in the game a lot longer still aren't doing this either, so you're definitely one up on the game now....

And I want the world to know it.

re: VMs - Jon, which solution are you using, and if it is VBox, have you found a way to *not* have to reinstall the VMs from scratch - that is what is holding me back at the moment from making many VMs right now....

Also, Hopefully in about a week's time I get the distinct pleasure of installing Server 2008 (or perhaps the R2 Beta) on a 32 core monster server with 32 GB of RAM....

Good job, benway - we'll do Jon proud yet!

I made my post over at sevenforums.com: http://www.sevenforums.com/software/6087-ultramon-replacement-5.html#post81335

One of the forum members has a working prototype of something developed specifically for Win7, see the next post: http://www.sevenforums.com/software/6087-ultramon-replacement-6.html#post81845

Jon, you might want to take a good look at it - it seems as if this guy might have the taskbar hooking working out perfectly (or else that is a mash-up of just screen shots with no real code - but this guy sounds legit from other posts I have seen).

Finally, check out http://www.sevenforums.com/software/6087-ultramon-replacement-6.html#post82245 - using both DF and UM together it seems you can have targeted apps - IOW, only apps on each monitor show up in that monitor's taskbar....

Might be a good workaround for those who simply cannot live without this feature currently in DF - although personally I also think it would be a bad idea to mention your competitor's product(s) on your own web pages in this manner :P

Thanks for the heads-up. Task Se7en does look very good indeed. Once I've ironed out a few more bugs in the current version I'm going to start working non-stop on native looking taskbars in Vista/Win7. I'm hoping to include this and the caption bar buttons in version 3.1 as the main new features.

As I mentioned over in the Task Se7en thread, I think these two programs can co-exist peacefully :-), DF being a full suite and the other being a stand-alone taskbar... (DF being more popular with the masses because of the 'full package' :-))

I agree - with DF already offering so many other features besides the taskbar, I don't think I'd be able to let it go....
