I have dual monitors at work, but frequently use remote desktop to remote in to this box. When I do that, all windows gets pushed to the primary monitor, which is great.

When I come back to my dual monitors, all windows are still on the primary monitor. I'd like to be able to move the same windows (typically) back to the secondary monitors.

Is there a way to do this? I'm envisioning something like 'profiles' which define which windows appear on which monitor, and the ability to load them.

Sorry, there isn't currently a DisplayFusion feature that can remember and reset window positions. I am planning to introduce a feature that allows DisplayFusion to start-up an application on a specific monitor, but this wouldn't help you as the applications are already started, sorry. :(

Even if it had the ability to remember applications had windows on which monitor would be nice, without remembering size and position on the monitor. Or, the ability to say...

'for application X always start it on monitor 2 when it starts up _if_ monitor 2 is available, otherwise start it on the primary monitor'

...and then maybe the ability to send apps to their assigned monitors if they aren't already.

Just a thought though. Thanks for considering it.

This is definitely planned, but not until 2011. :)

Sorry for the bump on an old thread, but it looks like this thread was kind of left hanging. The feature works well for new windows, but what's needed yet (or perhaps exists and I can't find it) is a function that says "OK, go and put all the existing windows on the correct monitors now" Ideally this function would automatically run when DF detects that the number of windows has changed - when you log in to the multi monitor desktop after having been connected remotely - but if it's by hotkey that would be fine as well.

Any way to do this/ chance of it getting added to the software? Pretty please? :)

Could someone explain this to me and tell me if it will handle what I'm looking for?

- I also access my PC remotely (usually via LogMeIn) and it shrinks the resolution of my primary display to fit everything in.
- I also use Steam Big Picture quite often which switches my primary and secondary displays, and then switches them back on exit.

These events cause my desktop gadgets, and some windows, to not return to their proper location.
It's a minor inconvenience, one I've learned to live with, but if DF can handle the task of putting things back where they belong, then great!

What I would hope for would be for DF to remember all the positions of objects on the desktop right before a display switch or resolution change, and then restore them when the displays go back to normal. Is this possible?

@Keith and Jon84: We are still planning to implement a feature that will save/restore window positions, so I've added your votes to it. We'll be sure to follow-up in this thread when we're able to implement it :)

Thanks!

In the latest DisplayFusion beta (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/), we’ve added two new Functions on the Settings > Functions tab for saving and restoring window positions. Just assign key combinations to them (or set them as TitleBar Buttons), and you should be all set!

Thanks!
