Hi, I just had to reinstall windows last night and after getting DisplayFusion reinstalled I found i wasn't able to get the middle click (mouse 3) on the title bar of firefox to move to change which monitor it was on.

It did work on my old setup of windows, although sometimes it was a bit sluggish to respond, i just chocked that up to my windows install getting a bit buggy.

I know this feature was disabled on older versions of displayfusion but it worked for me before..

I've tried turning on the "Treat top tab windows..." thing on in the advanced settings but no luck. I promise i googled all night last night while 200+ windows updates downloaded and installed but could never find a post about how to fix it, so im sorry if this is something that has been asked, and answered.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

update: found I was using an older version of DF (discplayfusion) and so tried that also to get firefox to switch monitors, No luck.

I'm sure there is some silly little setting i just haven't turned on. I found the "Treat Top-Tab Browser Windows as Standard Windows" toggle in advanced settings allowed me to move Thunderbird (Mozilla's email client)

With Firefox, you need to middle-click the caption buttons (minimize/maximize/close) to move it to the next monitor. This is because Firefox treats a middle-click on its titlebar as a "New Tab" action :)

Hey Keith thanks for the response, I know I see you all over here helping people out so I have a random question.

What version was it that the change was made in DF to not let you click the title bar in firefox? I USED to always use the older version of DF becuase all I use is the wallpaper setup and middle clicking. So I have no problem going out and finding an installer for the older version that still had it working.

What's weird is I SWEAR I had it working just before my windows reinstall. it would respond a little bit slow, just like thunderbird does with the "Treat Top-Tab Browser Windows as Standard Windows"

Thanks for the response regardless, Keith.

Looks like we changed it in 8.0. Here's the link to 7.3.4 if you want to give it a go: https://www.binaryfortress.com/Files/DisplayFusion/DisplayFusionSetup-7.3.4.exe

My only guess would be that you were running 7.3.4 before the Windows re-install, as there's definitely no way to make middle-click work on the Firefox titlebar in 8.1.2 :)

Keith, that was 100% what it was haha. so thank you very much.

also REALLY can't even stress how surprised i am you could supply me a legit link to an older version of DF so I didn't have to download it from some dodgy third party site.

Thanks a bunch, You can bet i'll be grabbing a DF license in the near future!

Thank you.

Question: is there a way to re-enable it, though? I have installed an add-on to FF that disabled middle click opening the new tab, but I guess on your side it's hard-coded. It's not the end of the world, I can still click the buttons (it takes a bit longer for window to move, though).

It was answered above, the only way to do this is:

Alternatively press the Winkey + Shift + Arrow key (press the arrow pointing to which direction you want to scroll through your screens).

There's an Advanced Setting that's supposed to allow it but it looks like it's currently broken. I've added that to our list to fix up :)

Can you tell me which Firefox add-on you are using for disabling new tab opening on title bar middle click?

Depending on which version of Firefox you are using you could try this:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/enhanced-middle-click/

It dosnt work on the latest versions (57 Quantum) but then again not much does.....

The issue still persists with Firefox and Waterfox. On Waterfox classic however the only way it works if you middle click on the edge of window, while cursor is changed to resize window style, which means it doesn't work on maximized window. I was not able make it work on Firefox whatsoever.

I can answer that on my machines, it works but is a sort of delayed action by just a couple of seconds.

Sorry, my bad, had brain fart here, I though "caption buttons" were on left side in the menu...yes, it works fine on caption buttons on both Firefox and Waterfox.

The latest build! Windows 19631 and DF version 9.7 beta 15. On all three of my machines, it works fine albeit with a little delay.

Strange, it's instant for me! Would you be able to attach a debug log from your machine?

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Use the middle-click move on Firefox
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

Thanks Alan! Looks like it's delayed if the Firefox window is maximized. I've added that to our list to fix up :)

Hey, is there any progress with this?
I have a proper title bar on firefox (not that weird tab-as-titlebar thing) and middleclick won't move the window to another monitor. It works on the minimize/maximize button area but it's painfully slow and very uncomfortable having to hit that small area in the first place.
I've tried enabling the "Treat Top-Tab Browser" option just in case, but since I have a proper title bar, naturally it didn't help.

Hello,

This issue should be fixed up in the latest beta, available here: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta. Please let me know if you still run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

Hi,

Not sure if it's the intended behavior but I had to enable the "treat top tab browser" option to get it working (to my logic, this option should apply only if the browser is in that top-tab mode without proper title bar), but otherwise it's working flawlessly now and the lag seems to be gone as well.

Thank you!

Incredibly sorry to necro this thread but could you please tell me what the advanced settings would be and if they're available in DF Pro 10.0?

Hi Timothy,

The setting is called "Treat Top-Tab Browser Windows as Standard Windows", it should still be there in 10.0, yep!

Thanks for your support over the years!
