Good morning

Well Jon you have done such a good job at optimizing your code that you are now faster than Windows, your buttons beat the actual window opening on the screen every time. Keep up the great work. :wink:

Thanks! I've been putting a lot of effort into performance lately, especially in the latest betas. It's nice to hear the work is paying off and helping someone. :)

Jon,

Don't quite know how to say this without sounding like a smart-arse, but i think this is actually a bug being reported...

Win 7, 64bit, Aero enabled: There is a small animation that occurs when a window is opened. Your buttons appear instantly and *then* the window appears. Probably could do with a wait of a few ms before showing them.

It's easier to see if you open a window over a light background...

Cheers,

Darren

Depends on if you're using Aero or not, if I'm not, my windows DO pop up in literally 0ms, but with the Aero turned on, it get's delayed by the animation.

Maybe you should compensate for thin animation only when Aero is turned on?

Or, you can simply disable the animation and speed Aero up in general.

Control Panel - System and Security - System - Advanced System Settings - Advance (Tab) - Settings - Visual Effects

(Sorry, don't know of an easier shortcut.)

I would love to do that, but unfortunately DisplayFusion can't tell that a window is being animated. DF just asks Windows, "hey where is this window and is it visible?". Windows replies "it's located here, and it's visible", even if it's being animated. It's not perfect, but at least the buttons are up there and ready to go once the window is. :)

@Kilmatead

Well yes, I know, but who said I didn't want the animation? In fact, I like the animation.

@Habitats

It was just a thought. I used to like it at first too, until I realised it was rather like waltzing through molasses wearing ill-fitting boots. And that's on a fast PC, so I shudder to think what happens on older hardware. After awhile one doesn't even notice it missing, with the rest of Aero happily intact - and DF's buttons being none-the-wiser.

I love how smooth the animation in Windows 7 (with Aero) is, but without Aero is painful. I've played around with some more ideas for delaying the TitleBar Buttons, but nothing works reliably and just ends up being more inconsistent. If I can work it out I'll be sure to implement it in a future release. :)

Kudos to you Kilmatead,

This comment sounded like crazy talk, "waltzing through molasses wearing ill-fitting boots" but now I have to agree totally :)

I just did not think to turn off that aspect of Aero. I did notice the titlebar buttons showing up briefly before the window got there but it didn't stand out too much after awhile. The one thing that DID bother me was that when you minimize a window on the DF Taskbar, the minimize animation always looks as if it is minimizing to the main taskbar and so misleads the eye... or at least my eyes enough to bug me. Disabling the window animations as you suggested makes the interface seem easily twice as snappy, no more misleading minimize animation, and the buttons and the windows are hitting the screen at the same time. Bliss.

Thanks again for the suggestion,
~jim
