I've been using Logonstudio to set me windows logon background, and decided to give Display fusion a go at setting it instead.

However, when I choose to set it the same as my current windows background I get a couple of errors. The first one says;

You must have DisplayFusion Pro to use this feature!

and then a few seconds later a second error appear saying;

An error has occured while setting your Windows Logon Background. C:\Users\cg\AppData\Romaing\DisplayFusion\WindowsLogonImage.jpg
Wait time exceeded.

If it's set to "allow display fusion to manage the logon background" and "set it to match wallpaper" I get these messages every time I change the windows wallpaper too.

After clicking ok, I'm prompted for admin credentials by the UAC, and after entering them I then get the two errors.

Anyone got any clues on how to rectify this. I'm using DisplayFusion pro with a licence as I have the dual task bars, so it's not a licence issue.

I'm using v3.3.1, with Windows 7 32bit.
Thanks

Carl

Hi Carl,

Could you give the latest beta version a try? You can download it from here: http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/

If it's still not working, could you copy the info from the Troubleshooting tab in the DisplayFusion settings to a txt file and post it, or email it to me at support@displayfusion.com?

Thanks!

I've installed the Beta and it's now asking me for my licence key again. I can't remember it, and the Find a licence option on the site doesn't seem to find any e-mail I use. The interesting bit is if you skip the licence key option, it remembers the licence key from the previous installation so it's not needed.

Same results.

Here's the troubleshooting log attached.

Cheers

Ok, I haven't been able to reproduce the issue so we'll need to dig a little deeper. Could you do the following?

- On the Troubleshooting tab in DisplayFusion, enable debug logging and apply the settings
- Click the Open Log Location button
- Reproduce the issue and note the time
- Email the DisplayFusion.log file and include the time that you reproduced the issue to me at support@displayfusion.com

Thanks!

If I still have the "Allow DisplayFusion to manage the Windows Logon Background" option ticked when applying the changes after ticking "Enable debug logging", I get prompted for UAC admin credentials again, and then get the original error messages again.
Without the "Allow DisplayFusion to mange the Windows Logon Background" option ticked, I don't get a UAC prompt when applying the changes after ticking "Enable debug logging".

In either case, when clicking on 'Apply' after ticking the "Enable Debug logging" checkbox, the checkbox is cleared and it doesn't apply any changes. So it looks like I can't enable debug logging either.

I've tried running Display Fusion with admin credentials using "Run as Administrator" too in case that was the problem, but get the same. Also when running it as admin credentials i'm obviously not licenced as it thinks it's the admin user running it.

If it's of use, I did have local admin rights when it was installed originally, but i've since removed my local admin credentials.

Yeah another customer just mentioned the same issue with enabling the Debug Logging. Looks like a bug in Beta 11.

So, you'll have to enable it manually via the registry. To do this:

- Exit out of DisplayFusion completely
- Go to Start > Run
- Type in "regedit" and click OK
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion
- Set the LogDebug value to 1
- Start DisplayFusion and check the Troubleshooting tab to make sure Debug Logging is enabled

As I wasn't a local admin, I had to run regedit with admin credentials, but that meant the "HKCU" path was the admin accounts, and not my own. So I set the flag in the reigistry, then did a "run as administrator" on DisplayFusion as the admin account I used to set the registry flag, and I couldn't reproduce the error.

I added myself to the local admins group so I could run regedit as myself to set debug options for my account. After adding myself to the local admiin group I could then set the "Allow displayfusion to mange the Windows Logon Background" check box and apply the change fine, giving my own credentials in the UAC prompt.

Now I've removed myself from the local admin group, I can still set the logon background options fine as long as I give it a user account with admin credentials in the UAC prompt. Even using the credentials of the account I was using when I was getting the error.

If I can manage to reproduce the problem, I'll update this thread, and post the log file.

Incidently, if I run the app as myself, on the Troubleshooting tab, the button reads "Open Log", if I run the app as an admin account using "Run as administrator", the button reads "Open Log Location".

Strange! Perhaps there was some funny one-off bug with the UAC prompts. Please let me know if you have any more trouble!

Thanks for following-up! I'll check out the Open Log Location button too. Thanks!

Hi there

I'm also constantly getting this error message. Could it be a 64 bit issue? UAC is turned off on this PC.

Thanks

I dont understand why the message is raised as it sets the wallpaper fine. What is the time-out checking for?

Thanks

Hi there

No I have the Pro version: When using Flickr Wallpaper feature I get:
An error has occured while setting your Windows Logon Background. C:\Users\JohanB\AppData\Romaing\DisplayFusion\WindowsLogonImage.jpg Wait time exceeded.

But it set the wallpaper no problem with Beta 14. Not sure what is timing out, a check to confirm that it is set maybe?

Using Win 7 64. When you select "Load next image" it seems fine. Only get this when it runs on interval/auto.

Thanks

Ok, interesting! So you have your Desktop Wallpaper setup to randomly load from Flickr, and the Windows Logon Background set to use the Desktop Wallpaper image?

Could you copy the info from the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab to a text file and attach it here? If you could also backup your DisplayFusion settings using the "Backup Settings" button on the Options tab, and attach a copy here as well, that would be great! Hopefully with the same settings, I'll be able to reproduce the issue here :)

Thanks!

Thanks! And do you get the "Wait time exceeded" message every time it changes? Or only intermittently?

Hi Keith

Its set to use the image from Flickr with "use the most interesting option. There are no size settings, is this what you're referring to?

Thanks

I was thinking that you were using local images, but it's good to know that it's loading from Flickr. I'll test it out here using Flickr's most interesting enabled, and hopefully I'll be able to reproduce the error.

Thanks!

Just a quick update: I haven't been able to reproduce this error, but we're going to do some more digging, and I'll post an update as soon as we have some more information.

Thanks!

Hi all, the "Wait time exceeded" error when setting the Windows Logon Background should be all fixed up in the latest beta version of DisplayFusion. Could you try updating from the link below and let me know if it's indeed resolved on your machines?

Thanks!

Hallo Keith!

Thanks again for fixing the random wallpaper from Flickr issue. There is a convenient button to pause the wallpaper changes (handy if one comes up you like *grin*). When restarting DF or rebooting that setting is reset and a new paper is loaded - can you save the state of that function to retain the pic on program restarts? I've figured where they're saved to manually reset - thanks :)

Regards from South Africa
