My typical setup is 2-monitors xpsp3 machine with displayfusion running (mainly for the dual taskbars and window management shortcuts). I lock my computer and then go home and can't remote desktop in anymore. Unfortunately, when I try to remote into my machine, I enter my login credentials and then get a blue screen with no taskbars, no running programs. It's extemely frustrationg. I wonder if it has something to do with the dual taskbars?

Sounds like a Remote Desktop problem. I've seen session hangs happen on occasion in the XP days. Some applications will lock up Remote Desktop when you connect to an existing session, but generally they don't run into trouble if they're started within an already-running Remote Desktop session. So the workaround is to log yourself out and then reconnect to a fresh session.

Since you have a hung UI, you'll need to hit Ctrl-Alt-End to bring up the Ctrl-Alt-Delete screen on the remote computer. I don't remember if you can use Task Manager, but you can at least logoff/reconnect.

Note that I've experienced this several times on XP, only *twice* on Vista, and *never* (yet) on Windows 7. If it's at all possible to upgrade ...

This behaviour is pretty consistent for me. Ctrl+Alt+End doesn't bring up a prompt for me either unfortunately. I guess I'll do some experiementation with/without the extra taskbar and with/without displayfusion running to see if I can narrow down the issue.

I did some more testing and the problem does appear to occur from using Display Fusion. Here were the steps I tested.

1.Try to remote desktop while logged in and the second task bar was running. (Original question).
Results: Blank screen, cannot force logout, cannot ctrl+alt+en

2.Try to remote desktop while logged in after disabling the second task bar
Results: Blank screen, cannot force logout, cannot ctrl+alt+en

3.Try to remote desktop in after completely logging out
Results: Success, expected remote login experience

4.Try to remote desktop while logged in after uninstalling DisplayFusion and rebooting
Results: Success, expected remote login experience

I haven't been able to reproduce this issue so far with my XP SP3 test machine. Can you please install this new beta (Beta 6), and reboot and let me know if you still have the same issues:

Thanks!

In an effort to cleanup the DisplayFusion forum, this topic is being locked and archived because it applies to an older version of DisplayFusion. If you are using the latest version of DisplayFusion and would still like some assistance, please create a new topic and I'll be happy to help you out. There are also beta versions available for testing the latest features and bug fixes:

Thanks! :)
