It seems around the time that KB5008353 (OS Build 22000.469) came around on Windows Update, DisplayFusion's taskbar no longer shows text next to the icons when set to Icons & Text.
Deleting a registry key with the following .reg file and restarting DF fixes the issue:

Code

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics]
"MinWidth"=-

But rebooting restores the deleted key.
I don't know if you want to somehow ignore this key? I don't know how or why DF is affected by it.

EDIT:
Still happens with build 22000.493 and DF10b12.

Are you running any software that modifies the Windows taskbar, like ExplorerPatcher or 7+ Taskbar Tweaker?

Normally yes. I have Explorer Patcher and Start11 which both modify the task bar in some manner or another.

To determine the cause of things, I uninstalled Explorer Patcher and disabled the Start11 service and rebooted. The text was still missing, so I figured they were unrelated.

However, this is before I found out about the reg key that triggers the issue. Do you suppose one of these programs is setting the reg key at some point?

EDIT: I am currently using a scheduled task to delete the key before DF starts and it solves the problem for me... but I thought I would report it anyways. I don't know if I can set up procmon to determine how the reg key is restored on reboot.

Yeah I'm wondering if it's one of those apps (I'm guessing ExplorerPatcher) that's setting it on boot. I will install it here to test out.

You can use procmon to see what process is doing it as well, there's a way to set it to run on startup I believe.

You're right, it is definitely Explorer Patcher that is doing this.

It seems like they were trying to fix an issue for some users where the taskbar entry was extremely large. But this "fix" looks to be a bit too heavy handed. Though the name MinWidth implies that it's not the max width that DF should display? I'm not really sure who I should be reporting this to, now.

I've confirmed it's ExplorerPatcher setting it as well. I had a look back to see why we read that value in the first place, and it looks like it doesn't really apply to DF for Windows 11 anyway, so we're going to try ignoring it for the next beta.

We've just released a new DisplayFusion Beta version and this issue should be all fixed up. Please let us know if you run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!
