Middle clicking on a DF thumbnail or left clicking the X on the DF thumbnail of a window that is minimized does not result in the window being closed immediately. It will be closed as soon as the user clicks on its taskbar item to restore/maximized. The W7 taskbar closes the window immediately even if minimized.

Does this happen with all programs? Or just certain ones? I've tried with a few different programs and they all close right away, even when minimized.

Looks like it's specific to a single app. I didn't notice since about 95% of the windows I close on my 2nd monitor are code diffs. The offending app is Sourcegear Diff Merge. Both 3.3.0.18513 (x86) and version 3.3.1.1118 (x64) are affected.

Tested and confirmed, thanks! I'll post an update if/when we're able to fix it up.

Just wanted to follow-up and let you know that we've released DisplayFusion 3.4.1 Beta 1, which should resolve this issue. You can download the beta version using the link below:

http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/

Please let me know if the issue still occurs after updating to DisplayFusion 3.4.1 Beta 1.

Thanks!

I tried the current beta and it's working on my home PC. I'll probably wait until the next normal release before trying it on my work PC.

Was this fix supposed to be in 3.4.1? I just installed it but DiffMerge still needs to be given focus before it is closed.

Seems to work ok for me in 3.4.1. Which version of DiffMerge are you using? I tested with DiffMerge 3.3.2 (1139).

Thanks!

Initially failing with Diffmerge 3.3.1 (1118 ) x64 here, I upgraded to 3.3.2 (1139) x64 and it appears to be working. Not sure if it's another edge case; or if the Diffmerge installers forced restart of explorer played a role (I hadn't restarted anything after installing DF 3.4.1).

Unfortunately it seems I spoke too soon. Diffmerge closes correctly if I launch it from the start menu, but don't do a comparison between two files. Once I do a file comparison (whether I started DM from: the start menu, Visual Studio (via AnkSvn), Windows Explorer (shell extension context menu), or TortiseSVN) it refuses to die if it's not the topmost dialog on the monitor or partially visible and I mouse over it.

Ok no problem, I'll test out this scenario with DiffMerge and I'll keep you posted.

Thanks!

I've tested this out and it still seems to work for me. I tested it as follows:
  • Selected two text files in Explorer, right-clicked and did DiffMerge > Compare
  • Clicked OK to launch the compare window
  • Minimized DiffMerge
  • Opened another program on the same screen
  • Closed DiffMerge (did it twice, one via middle-click on the preview, the other via the close button on the top right of the preview)
Am I doing anything differently from you? Just wondering if I'm testing it correctly :)

Thanks!

I just tried that test sequence and had it close; but if I skip the minimize step it remains open. Restored vs Maximized doesn't appear to make a difference.

Interesting! I've got almost the same results as you when the DiffMerge window isn't minimized. For me, when I try to close it from the preview, it stays open as long as I don't move the mouse. As soon as I move the mouse after closing it from the preview, DiffMerge closes.

Is this the same thing that happens when you try it?

Almost. To kill the window I have to move the mouse over the diffmerge dialog. If it's behind another window I can move the mouse without killing it. Likewise if its restored and sized to only cover the top part of the screen I can move the mouse around the bottom of the monitor without anything happening. In both cases it dies as soon as the mouse moves over it.

I'm really beginning to wonder WTH they're doing behind the curtain to result in so much weirdness.

AH yes! You've nailed it. I'm not sure we'll be able to do anything about this, but we'll certainly check it out and I'll post an update when we have one.

Thanks for your help in testing this issue!

Just a quick update, this issue should be all fixed up in 4.0.1 Beta 4. Could you give it a try when you have a chance and let me know how it works out?

Thanks!

I've been using 4.0.1 at work for the last 2 weeks; and I haven't had any DF-DiffMerge problems. I think you've finally nailed this one.
