I have the same issue. DisplayFusion is running in task manager (constantly using 16% CPU), but the multi taskbar function isn't working and the tray icon doesn't respond. :-[
I'm running version 9.9. I also tried reinstalling with version 9.7.1 and it's the same jazz
update: I intstalled the 10.0 beta and it solved it

I am seeing exactly the same issue.
Two days ago, it was working fine, I can use the functionalities.
Then all of a sudden, the ALT-Tab changed to only primary desktop, the hotkeys no longer working.
And no taskbar icons anymore. But it's showing in the TaskManager....
Tried to unistall and reinstall, same result.
Very odd.

Same issue here, it started right after installing latest Win10 update (W10 PRO)
Service is starting , it's visible in task manager , but it don't appear in tray , and not working. It only makes constant CPU utilization ( 2 cores at 100%) nothing else happens.

Same with me. I am running Win10Pro 64-bit also and the update last night seemed to jack up DF. It's running in Task Manager with a very high CPU and Power usage.

We've been trying to reproduce this issue here with no luck so far. Could you all update to the latest beta? You can download it here: https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/

After updating, could you attach a copy of your DisplayFusion troubleshooting info so that I can compare it and hopefully find a common link between folks that are having this issue?

  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button
  • Reply with the file attached

Thanks!

I don't have AVG, but I do have Avast! and just got the most recent Win10 update. I went to alt-tab and got HUGE screenshots of my open windows and *thought* it was a DF update. I guess it was W10 breaking everything, like it usually does with unclear updates. I installed the DF10 beta as I saw it's supposed to clear up this issue, but as fate would have it, I'm getting call errors when trying to open ANY window.
Example:
Error: Failed to call SendData: DisplayFusion.OpenWallpaperWindow
[System.Exception]
Would you like help with this error?
Clicking yes brings me To This Page.

Well my PC did a Windows 10 update last night, but it appears as if Avast also did an update at the same time. Displayfusion was not working though it was showing in Task Manager with 'Very High' usage indicated. Don't know which of the updates caused the problem, although disabling Avasts shields did not help.

Upgrade to the latest Beta for displayfusion has restored functionality - but I don't yet know if the Beta will cause any problems of its own :-[

Yes, I have the 10.0 beta. I said as much in my post. "DF10" = DisplayFusion 10 for clarification. I'm not being a smartass, I promise.

I did get it to run, I had to use the taskbar icon menu. Desktop icon and rightclick menu spawn errors like the one I posted. If there is a way to post an error log I can do that.

@Scientwist: Sorry, missed that in your post. Could you create a new topic for that issue and attach a debug log? Here are the steps to get the debug log:

  • On the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "L1: Log Minimal" and click Apply
  • Reproduce the issue and note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Click the "Export Info to File" button on the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Reply with the file attached
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

Log generated. I also included a txt file with some specific lines (according to NP++), I hope that helps to narrow it down some.

The time itself is from 6:39 to 6:40 18:39 to 18:40 according to the log.

Had the same issue on windows 11 after I installed the Windows 11 KB5022845 (22H2) update. Display fusion was running, it appeared on my task manager but not on my system tray. It won't do anything and wouldn't open any windows. Installing the beta fixed the issue.

Same here. Update installed last night. This morning DF not working. I even tried uninstalling the updates but it wouldn't let me saying there has been an error. Installed the DF Beta and everything is up and running again but that was a good three hours of troubleshooting.

Since installing the Beta I have been occassionally getting a taskbar resource message (see attached).
This did not occur previously.
I do not use Start11, but do use StartIsBack+ 2.9.17 - however as stated I have not seen this message prior to installing the DisplayFusion Beta.
I am assuming that the option referred to in the message is within Start11, and not DisplayFusion.

My bad - just noticed the forum topic relating to Beta 21 which deals with this message.

I have left the above message as it indicated that this is not only with Start11

TechLobo: The workarea bug is a Windows issue where it won't reserve the space correctly when we create the DF taskbar (Windows should do this any time an AppBar window is created, which is what the DF taskbar is). The original error dialog mentioned Start11 as it's the app that we've seen cause this issue the most, but it's definitely possible that other apps can cause it too :(

Just to chime in, I got this issue immediately after installing
"2023-02 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 Version 21H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5022906)"
Removing this update didn't work, and it left behind a Servicing Stack update (10.0.19041.2664) which can't be uninstalled.
I was actually getting really desperate about this, as my workflow relies on SO MANY shortcuts that DisplayFusion provides (I can live without the wallpapers for a while). Thankfully updating to the most recent beta fixed this!
EDIT: And to clarify further, I was getting high CPU usage from both DisplayFusion.exe as well as DisplayFusion service, and wasn't getting DF in the tray, and DisplayFusion service was always listed as "Starting" under services, never reaching "Running" status.

EDIT2: And no AVG either.

Hi
Is there any chance this issue will be fixed in current version 9.X or not, and the only way to fix it is to install 10.0 Beta ?

Same here, I tried version 9 without any success; tried Beta, and it worked.
I wonder if DisplayFusion can find what might be the reason.....

In testing here, a fully updated Windows 10 system worked fine for me with 9.9. The only way I could get this issue to happen was by installing either AVG Antivirus or Avast Antivirus. We can't make changes to 9.9, so at the moment the only fix is to update to the latest beta. We are planning to release the final version of 10.0 fairly soon as well.
